U.K. delegate:That would be great. Though we did some homework before we came, we’d still love to know more about your park with its picturesque scenery and modern architectures. By the way, do you mind if we interrupt you and raise a few questions?

园区领导：没问题，我最怕自己说了半天，可别人什么都没听明白，呵呵。我们的建筑都很有特色，而且注重环保，因为我们觉得，科技应该更好地服务环境，美化环境。

U.K. delegate:We couldn’t agree with you more. If the technology only devastates our earth, then we’d rather do without it.

园区领导：我就不谈数字了，这些你们之前肯定看过，而且明天的研讨会上，我们也会给大家提供详细的信息。请问各位对高新区哪些方面感兴趣？

U.K. delegate:I read that your Hi-tech Park is home to a group of top universities in China. Education and hi-tech, a perfect match. But, a silly question, where are these universities? I don’t think you’ve enough space to hold all.

园区领导：哈哈，我们这儿是虚拟大学园，由海内外48所著名院校组成，这些年来为我们培养了数万名高层次人才，并成功将研究成果产业化。

U.K. delegate:That explains why I can’t find them. This approach lives up to the name of hi-tech, using technology to overcome constraints of distance.

园区领导：除此之外，高新区还汇集了一大批国内外知名企业和大学的研发中心，有些企业的研发经费占销售额的10%以上。这样，我们形成了产学研结合的区域创新体系。

U.K. delegate:In the U.K., the integration of universities, research institutes and enterprises also brings about superb outcome. They are also winning the support from government as well.

园区领导：深圳市政府也非常重视高新区的发展，希望以高新区来带动高新技术产业的进步和城市竞争力的增强。

U.K. delegate:I also heard that there is a strong presence of incubators in your park. What about this incubator cluster? Where do get venture capital support?

园区领导：我们的多元化、专业型孵化器群也是园区一大特色，为初创企业提供多功能、全方位的综合服务平台，成为高新技术创新源泉。风险投资支持主要来自政府、海内外民间资本参与的创业投资体系。

U.K. delegate:We are given to understand that Shenzhen has made tremendous headway in attracting venture capital. Also it is the base for China Venture Capital Research Institute.

园区领导：对于成长型的高科技企业来说，风险投资非常重要。我们鼓励园区内的企业充分利用风投和资本市场，做大做强。请问各位还对哪方面感兴趣？

U.K. delegate:I am interested in intellectual property right. Shenzhen has a strong position internationally as an innovative city. Innovation has been the key theme for your High-tech Fair. But it is also ill-renowned for many knock-off products. What a strong contrast!

园区领导：这确实是个奇怪的现象，有些人开玩笑说，山寨也算半个创新，当然不能算了。深圳的华为和中兴等高科技公司在知识产权方面有着强大的实力，尤其是华为，它是全球最大的专利申请公司。

U.K. delegate:I know that. People say Huawei is among the leading ranks of most innovative companies in the world.

园区领导：华为和中兴正是在高新区孕育起来的。高新区具有自主知识产权的产品在国内外具有相当影响，对全市高新技术产业的发展形成了带动作用。

U.K. delegate:So your products with indigenous IPR are mainly in ICT, software, computer and alike?

园区领导：除了这些科技类产品，还有生物医药、医疗器械、新材料、装备制造业产品等。

U.K. delegate:Can you show us to some enterprises based here? We can still afford some time for a short visit before we attend the reception.

Official of SHIP:Sure I don’t mind. The last thing I want is no one gets my drift after I finish my speech. Our architecture is unique in style and we value environmental protection in that, to us, technology should serve the best interests of environment and beautify it.

Official of SHIP:I’ll skip numbers for you must have read some, and tomorrow you’ll be given detailed statistics in the seminar. What interests do you have in SHIP?

英方代表：我知道高新区拥有一批中国名校。教育加高科技，确实是完美的组合。不过我有个低级问题，这些大学在哪儿？你们可没那么大地方。

Official of SHIP:Ha-ha, we are home to a virtual university campus, made up of 48 renowned colleges and universities in China and abroad. During these years we’ve produced tens of thousands of high-level graduates and successfully industrialized research results.

英方代表：难怪我一个都见不着。这种方式不负高科技的美名，以技术来跨越地域的差距。

Official of SHIP:Besides, SHIP also holds a large group of R&D centers of famous Chinese and international corporations and universities. Some corporations spend more than 10% of their turnover on R&D. In this way, a regional innovation system integrating industries, universities and research institutes is shaped.

英方代表：在英国，产学研结合也带来巨大成果，政府也给予很大支持。

Official of SHIP:Shenzhen Municipal Government also gives weight to develop SHIP, expecting it to drive the progress in high- and new-tech industries and urban competitiveness.

英方代表：我还听说园区内有很多孵化器。能不能谈谈孵化器集群？从什么渠道获得风险投资？

Official of SHIP:The diversified and professional incubator cluster is another unique feature of us. It provides start-up enterprises a multi-functional and all-round platform of comprehensive services and is the source of hi-tech innovation. Venture capital support is mainly from a start-up investment mechanism with the participation of government as well as domestic and international private capital.

U.K. delegate:We are given to understand that Shenzhen has made tremendous headway in attracting venture capital. Also it is the base for China Venture Capital Research Institute.

英方代表：我们知道，深圳在吸引风险投资上成绩显著，而且中国风险投资研究院就在这座城市。

Official of SHIP:Venture capital is dearly important for growth hi-tech firms. We encourage in-park enterprises to leverage on VC and capital market to grow from strength to strength. Any other questions?

英方代表：我感兴趣的是知识产权。深圳是国际知名的创新型城市，创新也是高交会的重要主题。不过深圳还因为众多山寨产品而恶名远扬。反差太大了。

Official of SHIP:Yes, it’s just strange. People joke that knock-off culture is partial innovation. I don’t think so. Hi-tech companies, like Huawei and ZTE, have great strength in IPR, particularly Huawei, the first in the world in terms of patent application.

英方代表：我知道，人们说华为是世界上最有创意的公司之一。

Official of SHIP:Huawei and ZTE actually made their mark in SHIP. We are also famous in China and globally by products with indigenous IPR, which also fuels the growth of high- and new-tech industry in Shenzhen.

英方代表：拥有自主知识产权的产品主要在信息和通讯技术，软件，电脑等领域，是吧？

Official of SHIP:Besides these technology-based products, it’s also in biomedicine, medical devices, new materials, equipment manufacturing industry and so on.
