Distinguished Guests, Ladies & Gentlemen,
It is a distinct honour to appear before you today as the President of UFI, The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. I bring you greetings from our members representing many of the world’s greatest exhibition companies and venues. // It is also a pleasure to report to you today that China now has the greatest number of members of any of the 84 countries represented in UFI. //
In the words of Confucius, it is delightful to have friends coming from so many different places to share in learning. We must be very conscious of the need to help solve the sort of practical challenges which face each of us. Most of these contemporary challenges are utterly distinct in nature and severity from any that I have encountered in my 40 years so far in the industry. // It is clear to me that we need new tools and techniques to face them, and must proactively seek out trends and opportunities, turning these to maximum advantage to help our own cause and that of our clients and customers. // I applaud the organizers of CEFCO today for their initiative to continue this great Forum each year. It allows us to learn. It is also an extraordinary networking opportunity within a great country that is excelling in our industry. //
China has enormous opportunity to lead in the evolving exhibition industry, not only in Asia, but also in the world. The explosion of product manufacturing and service industry development in China dictates that China’s exhibition growth will be brisk. //UFI takes great pride in being a part of this development through promotion of your exhibitions and encouraging quality and high standards to enhance this growth. UFI is also committed to enhance training and educational opportunities for those participating in the industry’s growth in China. //
I would like to challenge each of you in the industry to be open to the challenges ahead. We must work together and take advantage of forums like CEFCO to better understand the shifts that are taking place in the industry as a whole and point the way toward enhancements that will influence the future of exhibitions. // We have competition through other global means of marketing products and services. Accordingly, we must improve the experience for our exhibitors and buyers that will result in a greater value of attending trade fairs. We must proactively address such issue as social and corporate responsibility including environmental issues. // We must continue to improve in the area of protecting intellectual property rights and I compliment China’s effort in this regard, particularly in the last two years. We must assure that unreasonable regulations or the improper administration of regulations don’t deter industry growth. //
Let us capitalize on the knowledge that we will gain from this Forum, the prominent people that we will meet while here in Chengdu, and take ideas away that will help us to improve our individual businesses and the industry as a whole. Thank you again for the opportunity that CEFCO has given to UFI to be a part and support this great event each year. //

1957年，中国政府决定在广州创办一年两届的中国出口商品交易会。50年来，广交会从未间断，迄今已举办100届，成为中国历史最长、规模最大、商品种类最全、到会客商最多、成交效果最好的综合性国际贸易盛会。// 在新中国外贸史和建设史上留下了光辉的一页，对推动中国外贸发展和对外开放发挥了十分重要的作用。

We assemble here for celebrating the inauguration of 100th session of Chinese Export Commodities Fair tonight. I would like, on behalf of Chinese Government, to extend my warm welcome to friends from all countries.
In 1957, Chinese government determined to hold Chinese Export Commodities Fair twice a year in Guangzhou. Over the past 50 years, Canton Fair is held for 100 sessions and becomes an integrated international trade pageant with the longest history, biggest scale, most completed range of commodities, largest number of attending companies and most rewarding experience in China. It marks a splendid chapter in the history of foreign trade and construction of China, plays a significant role in pushing China’s foreign trade development and opening up as well.
---Canton Fair is a showcase of China's opening up. China can not develop without cooperation with the world. China and the world get better understandings through Canton Fair. On this very platform, great numbers of Chinese and foreign enterprises exchange information, discuss business, promote brands and purchase products. Meanwhile China’s products are sold to all parts of the world.
---Canton Fair is a miniature of China’s opening up. Holding of Canton Fair is a significant step in China’s implementation of opening-up policy. In order to better adapt to new situation of opening-up, expand import, increase export and push coordinated and balanced development in trade, Chinese government has decided that Canton Fair will change its name to the Chinese Import and Export Commodities Fair starting from the 101st session. China welcomes more people and friends from industrial and commercial community and other circles to attend the Fair.
